After the independence of India in 1918, the state of Idar merged with India. From 18th to 19th Himmatnagar was in Idar district. It was the largest city and headquarters of Dungarpur district of Rajasthan from 18 to 190. From 191, it became a part of Sabarkantha district of Gujarat.
